Taking Care of Yourself so you can Take Care of your Children

Taking care of yourself means more than setting sail on your annual cruise or lying down to a weekly back massage. In order to truly take care of yourself you have to start with the basics. If you can’t control stress, enjoy a good night sleep, and if you are suffering from back pain, then it doesn’t matter where you where you go or how many times someone will release the tension between your shoulder blades.  If you are rushing around with the same pile of papers on your desk after you close those office doors behind you as when you walked in, if you walk in the supermarket attempting to buy shaving cream and absent-mindedly walk out with whipped cream, then it doesn’t matter how many glasses of wine and double lattes you down as you aspire to achieve daily bliss. To truly take care of yourself you may want to pamper yourself with the following:

This topic teaches how positive reinforcement is more effective at changing behavior in the workplace than through intimidation and negative reinforcement.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Training

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an empirically validated psychotherapy that has been shown to be effective in reducing self-harming and self-defeating behaviors, such as those exhibited by adolescents with Borderline Personality Disorder and associated traits. These individuals struggle with impulsiveness, mood instability, have difficulty coping with stress, use self-injurious behaviors to manage overwhelming feelings, or have difficulty maintaining constructive relationships. Often these issues can result in high-risk behaviors, interpersonal chaos, frequent hospitalizations, and broken therapeutic relationships.

The primary goal of DBT is to help individuals identify and understand the triggers that lead to self-defeating behaviors, provide the new skills needed to regulate emotions, tolerate distress, and develop effective interpersonal relationships. This presentation will provide a broader understanding of adolescent borderline psychopathology, core principles and theories of Dialectical Behavior therapy, and the efficacy of Dialectical Behavior Therapy as a treatment modality in working with this  population.
